Duck
Rescuers in Training to Protect Native Waterbirds
Against Animal
Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) is gearing up for the annual battle on the wetlands by
training up new recruits for its wily team of duck rescuers.
“We have our core
group of experienced rescuers and every year we train up some new recruits.”
announced Chris Simcox, Native Waterbird Campaign Coordinator for AACT. “While we train new people, this is also a
chance to refresh and upgrade information for the current band of
rescuers. We like to keep everyone fully
informed and prepared for the start of the duck shooting season.”
The training is open
to anyone who has an interest in helping the beleaguered native ducks in
Tasmania. People of all ages and
abilities are encouraged to get involved, as there are a variety of roles that
need to filled.
“To be an effective
duck rescuer on the wetlands calls for an alert mind and a dedicated heart.”
said Mr Simcox. “We consider the
training to be a prerequisite to entering the wetlands during shooting
season. It provides the basis for
knowing what to expect before getting your feet wet. The training covers ways to stop ducks
getting shot, handling injured birds, and personal safety. We are there to save ducks lives safely.”
The Duck Rescue
Training will be held on Saturday February 21st, 1pm, at the
Republic Bar in North Hobart. The media
are invited to attend.
