Native Ducks on a Northbound Flight

Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) has an experienced team of Tasmanian Duck Rescuers that are fully prepared and ready to go into battle for the native waterbirds.  Outraged by Minister David Llewellyn's lack of concern for wild ducks, these dedicated people will be out there helping to protect the wildlife of Tasmania.

“We are angered that the the Minister allows duck shooting to continue in Tasmania.”  declared Chris Simcox, Native Waterbird Campaign Coordinator for AACT.  “Every year he ignores the science that shows an 82 percent decline in native waterbirds across eastern Australia over the past 25 years.  And every year he panders to the minority shooting interests, giving them the chance to blast native waterbirds from skies across Tasmania.”

The annual Tasmanian open season on native ducks is set to start on March 7.  For three months the native waterbirds on Tasmanian lagoons, lakes and rivers will be subject to gunfire that poses a threat to their long-term survival.  For three months rescuers will be at the ready to challenge the shooters at their game.
