Animal Advocates Call For Volunteers To Combat Duck Shooting

Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) is marshalling forces to tackle the duck shooting issue head-on at the opening of duck season in Tasmania on March 11. AACT is calling for interested people to be at the wetlands and stop this seasonal slaughter of native wildlife.

Killing ducks is considered “sport”. To indicate just how “sporting” it is, duck shooting is banned in ACT, New South Wales, Western Australia and now Queensland. Will Tasmania be next? AACT is determined to ensure that it is, by highlighting the barbaric nature of “game hunting”.

Catherine Silcock, Duck Shooting Campaign Coordinator for AACT said today:

“Our team of volunteers is ready to confront the shooters in a peaceful and colourful protest at the start of duck season in Tasmania. Our people have years of past experience in opposing the shooters at their game and succeeding. In the past we have made a positive difference by averting ducks from shooters guns with our vivid and noisy display. This year we will be out there again, with more energy and animation while we save the lives of ducks.

“We are asking the community to show its condemnation for duck shooting by joining us in our campaign on the waters during opening weekend. Your help is vital to stop native birds being killed and made to suffer in cruel and violent ways at the hands of shooters.”
