Attention Drawn to Cruelty of Horseracing

Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) today sought to draw attention to the cruelty of the horseracing industry following publicity generated by an incident outside the Devonport TOTE earlier this week.

Acting Convenor of AACT Emma Haswell stating:

"AACT was in no way involved in the actions that took place in Devonport earlier this week. However, it cannot be denied that Australia breeds approximately 20,000 racehorses each year and of these beautiful, majestic animals most will end up as pet food".

Emma Haswell also stating:

"Racehorses are fed an extremely unnatural diet with an enormous amount of high energy feed. As a result, about 60% of Racehorses end up with painful stomach ulcers. Racehorses are also involved in an industry where many are injured".
