Rodeo Cruelty Continues at Carrick
Bull Ride
Against Animal
Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) continues to call for a ban on rodeos and renews
its offer of a $5000 reward for information that leads to the successful
prosecution of rodeo cruelty.
AACT Coordinator, Julie Williamson
states:
The prosecution last year
of rodeo worker, Michael Wylie, following his cruel handling of the
bull After Dark at the Carrick Bull Ride in 2006 demonstrates there
are significant cruelty issues within this industry. AACT members will
be attending rodeos throughout the season but we are also encouraging
the public and those behind the scenes at rodeos to be alert and come
forward with any information that may help prosecute animal welfare
offenders through the Animal Justice Fund.
Tasmania’s animal welfare
legislation states that it is an offence to torment or terrify an animal
yet these very acts form the fundamental basis of many rodeo events.
Of further concern to AACT
is the lack of a Code of Practice for Rodeos in Tasmania allowing events
to be held without regulation.
Information can be provided
to the Animal Justice Fund via email at www.animaljusticefund.org
or by calling 0448 451 005.
