DEATH OF RODEO
BULL MUST BE A CATALYST FOR CHANGE
Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania
will be asking people to vote with their feet against rodeos at the Ulverstone
rodeo gates this Saturday 28th January.. AACT will be informing potential
patrons of the cruelty involved in Rodeos with a protest action from 4pm
at the main entrance of the Ulverstone rodeo.
AACT rodeo campaign co-ordinator
Emma Haswell said;
"There has been an overwhelming outpouring of concern from the general
public after the death of a rodeo bull at the Carrick Bull Ride recently.
The incident at Carrick has prompted people to speak out about the cruelty
of rodeos."
"Animals are forced
to buck in an unnatural way due to the use of devices such as flank
straps and spur. They are goaded into a terrified frenzy, all in the
name of entertainment "
There is nothing Australian
about rodeos. Competitors dress in American clothing, they call horses
by the American term ‘Bronco’, they use American saddles
they even call themselves cowboys.” Ms Haswell continued.
In Tasmania AACT and the RSPCA
are united on the fact that rodeos should be banned.
"They are a barbaric
and outdated form of entertainment" Ms Haswell concluded.
